May Day Memories

Ah spring!  As the saying goes: April showers bring May flowers.  It always brings back  fond memories of sitting in a  truck with 150 other Marines holding bayonet-mounted M-14s between our knees outside the D.C. beltway May 1, 1971.  The Nixon administration was pouring troops into D.C. at the rate of a hundred every minute from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions (it always took many more soldiers to do what a few marines could!)  to prevent thousands of the hammer-and-sickle “May Day” crowd posing as war protestors from desecrating America’s most sacred memorials.  They hoped their hidden agenda of socialist ideology would take root.  Unable to accomplish Moscow’s goals of destroying America through violent revolution they were told to regroup and go underground by coopting themselves into key government and educational positions.  Congratulations.  Today they are known as congressional staffers.  But it bears reminding them today of the book “Destructive Generation: A Second Look At the ’60s” by Peter Collier and David Horowitz, 1970.  Collier was one of two founders of the radical Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and the even more extreme Weather Underground.  He begins his book “I was born a communist and I was raised a communst.”  His book  reveals the Vietnam protest movement was in fact a facade and that all their direction, training and support were provided by Moscow – just as the much maligned FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover claimed.  Dumbing down the education system for the last four decades was just one step in their “Long War.”  Socialism has failed everywhere it has duped “Useful Idiots.”  It continues to do so today ………including more than a few Americans.
