Despite all the media hoopla surrounding the release of the Ron Howard directed movie The Da Vinci Code and respectable American and world-wide box office receipts ($224 and 758 million respectively) the movie was mocked by critics at the Cannes Film Festival. According to the Associated Press, a line spoken by Tom Hanks “drew prolonged laughter and some catcalls.” Nearing the end of the movie, “there were a few whistles and hisses, and there was none of the scattered applause even bad movies sometimes receive at Cannes.”
Specifics on the negative reactions to the movie (and there were many) can be read on Wikipedia. Tom Hanks, et al answered the accusation of blasphemy by dismissing the movie as “just entertainment.” That’s what Hollywood always says when they receive blowback from an outraged public. The truth is the movie was more psychological raping of the masses – in this case assaulting religion. The Da Vinci Code is Hollywood’s religious version of Oliver Stone’s subversive government movie “JFK” – both are premised on lies and – like the accusations against Supreme Court Justice nominee Kavanaugh- totally contrary to the overwhelming evidence.
The origin of the Da Vinci Code conspiracy harkens back to 1888 and a “theosophist” named “Madame” Helena Blavatsky. Helena is considered the “mother” of New Age spirituality. She was also the inspiration for the development of Nazi paganism and the chief popularizer of the swastika as a mystical symbol. Her theosophy based on astrology and the belief that Christianity is a grand conspiracy designed to conceal the “true” meaning and history of the supernatural. Her book The Secret Doctrine went to greater lengths than the Da Vinci Code book/movie to blame Christianity for all the horrors of capitalism and “inauthentic” living. Hitler used her ideas to not only dehumanize the Jews but to discredit the Catholic Church specifically and Christianity in general – replacing God with deification of Hitler as Der Feuhrer (“The Father”). When the Germans invaded the rest of Europe they burned thousands of churches to the ground (some with citizens inside) and killed or imprisoned thousands of clergymen.
Alfred Rosenberg was an influential ideologue of the Nazi Party who wrote Myth of the Twentieth Century. He plagiarized Blavatsky’s themes with a litany of religious conspiracies suggesting the existence of secret Gospels which, had they not been concealed by the Church, would debunk the “counterfeit” of the great image of Christ found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf “Christianity was not content with erecting an altar of its own. It had first to destroy the pagan altars.” [Well, it was actually God that did that – and with quite dramatic effect I might add- but he did order the prophets to destroy every living thing that worshipped false gods. Americans might want to remember that while watching the Money-God aka the National Football League on Sundays]. Hitler continued: “It was the advent of Christianity that first unleashed the “spiritual terror” upon the much freer ancient world.” (from Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg, pgs. 368-69). So think of this the next time you hear someone say “organized religion is the cause of humanity’s misery”. It is not. It is anti-religion that has brought about the worst of human misery.
The Big Lie that Christianity is the root of all evil is Satan talking through human mouths (read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis). And like the Nazi descendants today (the Left) Nazis projected their own vices onto what is good, wholesome and beneficial to the happiness of mankind – Christianity*.
I remember hearing Hugh Nibley, renowned ancient scriptorian, remark once that there is so much documentary and testimonial evidence of the existence of Jesus, his miracles and his resurrection (there were thousands of witnesses) that Christians don’t get credit for believing by faith any more (read The Complete Works of Josephus for example). So, despite what Blavatsky, Rosenberg, Hitler, Susan Sontag, the Left and all the other devil’s disciples say, God LIVES! Jesus IS the Christ! And, regardless of what the paid clergy say, every one of God’s children can know these things by simply kneeling before Him in reverent, earnest prayer and asking Him.
